Is It Cruel to Crate A Puppy At Night?

Many people wonder, is it cruel to crate a puppy at night? It depends. You see, puppies have a very unique way of looking at the world. They are used to being able to run around in their natural environment, which means there is nothing for them to be crated over. As they grow older, that all changes.

Puppies are pack animals, and they need to know who is in charge. If you don’t crate your puppy when they are young, you will find that as they get older, they don’t want to go back to their crate, because they feel like they don’t belong there. They may whine a lot, or cry for no reason. If you do not crate your puppy at night, it is very possible that if they had a bad experience when they were left alone at night, that they will be resentful towards you. Now if you were to crate a puppy at night, and leave them in there, they would become fearful and feel like they don’t belong there.

It is really up to you on what is it cruel to crate a puppy at night? Some people think that if they are trying to train a puppy not to soil their bed, or leave them to sleep in an enclosed area, then they are not being crating the puppy. However, if you are trying to crate a puppy so that they have the structure in which to live, they will benefit from it. This does not mean that if they were left alone in a crate, they wouldn’t take care of themselves. It simply means that they need some structure to feel like they have a place where they belong.

If you were to leave them all day, it would be extremely dull for them. They need to feel like they have a schedule with when they eat and go to bed. They need to know when certain events happen. It is extremely cruel to leave a puppy in a crate and not give them anything to do. If you want to crate train your puppy to go to bed at night, then you must do it at a time when they are most likely to get to bed.

For example, if you have a puppy that loves to watch TV, and they only get to watch TV during the day, then during the evening, they will be more likely to come in from the yard, and sleep. If you want your puppy to be in his crate during the day and sleep in his crate at night, you need to start at a time when they are more likely to be ready to sleep. If you start when they are still in their crate at night, they would think that you are playing around while they were watching TV, and they will not be ready to sleep at all.

A good rule of thumb is to leave your puppy in their crate for ten to fifteen minutes at a time. That seems like a long amount of time, but you need to make sure that your puppy is getting enough sleep. Also, if you were to leave your puppy alone in their crate for too long, they might become frightened. They would either wake up or try to get out. This could cause them to be afraid of you, which is not what you want.

When you crate train your puppy to go to bed at night, you should begin by laying down on the floor, and putting your puppy in his crate. Then close the door of the crate. After about five minutes, open the door, and see how long your puppy wants to stay in there. If they want to stay longer, give more praise and food treats. After your puppy stays for the amount of time you want, then go to bed.

Is it cruelty to crate a puppy at night? The answer is no. Your puppy is getting the amount of sleep that they need. They don’t need to be left alone in their crate for longer than five minutes, and if they do feel uneasy they can always get out and go to bed.
